A Quarantine Care Package

Hey LSS - no plans this weekend? No problem. Today I’ve rounded up a handful of tried-and-true recommendations for activities for this weekend.

1 At-Home Workout App to Try

  1. Nike Training Club

NTC is a fantastic FREE app for streaming workouts. The selection is great - pick from a huge variety of cardio, resistance/strength training and yoga. I like NTC because you can filter workouts by equipment; if you don’t have any workout equipment, no problem - select “no equipment” and NTC will show you bodyweight-only workouts (which will still kick your butt!)

2 Simple Recipes to Try

  1. Baking Powder Biscuits

Master this basic recipe and then you can jack it up any way you like - add shredded cheddar to make ‘em cheesy and yummy or top plain biscuits with your favorite jam or fresh fruit and a dollop of whipped cream for a delicious dessert.

  2. Dalgona Coffee a.k.a Whipped Coffee

A.K.A the DIY coffee drink that took over the internet during COVID-19. If you like coffee, great, but if you don’t - sub in hot cocoa powder for a decaf treat that will scratch that Starbucks itch.

3 Things to Watch

  1. The Great Canadian Baking Show

The GCBS is a friendly competition of amateur Canadian bakers. If you’re looking for fast-paced, high-stakes reality TV drama - this is not it. There is something so comforting in watching these home bakers HELP each other out when time is running out, the gentle critiques and encouragement from the judges and the tears all-around when someone goes home. This show is just so good and pure and everything the world needs right now. Stream for free on CBC Gem, or on Netflix.

  2. Full episodes available to stream FREE on Curio.ca: Anne with an E

CBC’s beautiful adaptation of our favourite redheaded kindred spirit, Anne of Green Gables. A series with a backdrop so beautiful, you’ll get some serious wanderlust for Canada’s smallest province. Brb, planning my trip to PEI once travel restrictions are lifted.

  3. Your “Comfort Watch”

"A “comfort watch” is what I call the movies you watch and re-watch when you’re tired, you’re sick, or you just… can’t. There’s something comforting about a movie you love so much you can practically recite it. If there was ever a time for a comfort watch, a quarantine weekend is it. My comfort watches are Harry Potter (which is surprising to no one) and The Devil Wears Prada or Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Bonus: Go On a Virtual “Getaway”

  1. NYT 52 Places, Virtually

Every year, the New York Times publishes an article of Places to Go to fuel wanderlust around the world. Now that we know we’re not going anywhere anytime soon, they’ve put together 52 places to check out, virtually.

I’m SO interested to know what YOU would put in a Quarantine Care Package, LSS - let me know in the comments! Happy weekend, everyone.
