Ya Boi Ms. Sharpe Takes Over: GSA Recommends Pt. II

Waddup Ladysmith, it’s ya boi, Ms. Sharpe! The GSA takeover of the library blog continues!

We are always on the lookout for books that reflect our unique and excellent (L, G, B, T, Q, P, A, 2S, I) selves because REPRESENTATION MATTERS. Last week, we talked about short stories collections from the very talented Ivan Coyote. In this second blog post, I’m bringing you another book recommendation, straight from the heart of your very own Sharknado.

Bear Bergman’s collection of essays, The Nearest Exit May Be Right Behind You, asks urgent questions about the complications of gender, ethnicity, trans identity that remind us that being seen is not always so simple. Some of these essays will feel like sinking into a warm bath of recognition and others are like having your eyes opened onto a new and stunning world. If you go on this adventure, and I hope you do, bring a sense of humour and a willingness to swap out your point of view for someone else’s.
